The University of New England Center for Excellence in the Marine Sciences (CEMS) is an incubator for forward-looking academic, research and partnership programs. Working in tandem with the University's Department of Marine Sciences, CEMS aims to capitalize on new marine science, policy and marine management opportunities, providing faculty, students and researchers the resources needed to create new knowledge in a wide variety of interdisciplinary fields, including marine science, marine ecosystems, conservation, restoration, business, sustainable fisheries and ecological aquaculture, social-ecological systems, and marine sustainability science.
CEMS generates and supports a variety of student fellowships, research grants, projects and programs, from the UNE Ocean Clusters to the emerging Ocean Food Systems Group, and the multi-institutional Sustainable Ecological Aquaculture Network (SEANET). Contact CEMS faculty and staff to learn more about our work, partnership opportunities and more.
As Maine embarks on exciting new initiatives in the marine economy, the University of New England's Center for Excellence in the Marine Sciences is situated to capitalize on the wide range of new science, policy and business opportunities the coming "ocean century” presents. Serving as an incubator for forward-looking academic, research and partnership programs, CEMS connects the pioneering work of our faculty, staff and students with the marine science community in Maine and around the world.
CEMS affords faculty, staff, students and outside researchers and organizations the opportunity to create and disseminate new knowledge in the marine sciences, marine ecosystems, conservation, sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, law, policy and management.
