Since 2012, participants in the College Aspirations program at UNE have worked to increase aspirations among low income youth and to support at-risk students who are interested in pursuing higher education.
College Aspirations mentors from UNE have supported high school students who are in the process of completing their college applications by teaching classes at the local public schools about topics such as financial aid and college level academics. The Office of Citizenship and Civic Engagement also offers college tours that are tailored towards low-income and first-generation students who are considering college as an option.
Moving forward, the focus of this program will be to pair College Community Mentoring Program mentors with individual high school students who need extra support with academics and college preparation.
