What Do I Need to Know About Human Subjects Research?

SoTL projects involve human subjects — namely your students. Consequently your proposed project must be reviewed by UNE’s Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects prior to launching it.

You also are required to complete the appropriate CITI online training module on Human Subject’s Protection before submitting your IRB materials even if you are applying for an exemption. A copy of your CITI certificate of completion must be attached since applications will not be processed or reviewed until this requirement has been fulfilled.

Navigating through this process can be daunting. This video, developed by past IRB administrator, Lliam Harrison, will help you through the process.
