The Poets and the Assassin, Daughters of Iran

7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Biddeford City Theatre, 205 Main Street, Biddeford
Off Campus

Although women in Iran have historically been at the forefront of national struggle for liberation and democracy, their stories of courage, resistance, and survival are unknown to most in the West. They live contradictory and intricate lives in an intensely traditional and patriarchal society.

The Poets and the Assassin: Daughters of Iran is an original play that offers insight into the plight of women in Iran and portrays their struggle against religious and cultural tyranny while countering stereotypes about Muslim women. It is written by Reza Jalali, Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs at the University of Southern Maine and directed by Dr. Assunta Kent, Associate Professor in USM’s Department of Theater. Co-Sponsored by Arts@UNE and UNE Women & Gender Studies Program.
