Community Health Outreach Workers (CHOWs) are cultural brokers, language interpreters and advocates and serve as a bridge for the Greater Portland immigrant/refugee population and healthcare providers. CHOWs from the City of Portland Office of Minority Health, who are working to support the UNE CHANNELS HRSA grant, will offer an interactive presentation/workshop that introduces students to major issues faced by specific community populations and best practices in providing culturally and linguistically appropriate care.
