Moving Forward

A lot has been accomplished but there is more to be done:

OPPORTUNITY

Goal: $20 Million

Recent gifts include a trust that will establish an endowed scholarship in honor of Lillian Corey WC ’56, and a KeyBank Scholars grant that will support College of Dental Medicine Students when they begin their clinical rotations in Maine. Direct student support, whether in the form of scholarships, stipends for internships, research or travel, is one of the most important objectives remaining in the campaign in order to make sure anyone can have access to the innovative opportunities offered by a UNE education.

INNOVATION

Goal: $25 Million

Education and healthcare are in the midst of dynamic change and UNE is at the forefront of both. A major grant from the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation is supporting Interprofessional education that is linking all our colleges to clinical programs in team-based healthcare. A grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has been a catalyst for new UNE approaches to educational reform. In addition to continued support for these initiatives, a major objective for the balance of the campaign will be funding for innovative programs in the marine sciences that will help grow Maine’s marine economy.

PLACE

Goal: $15 Million

UNE’s growth is most visible when walking on one of our campuses — whether in Biddeford and Portland Maine or Tangier Morocco. Renovated or new, the facilities that support our ever-expanding programs are second to none. It is appropriate that the last major Campaign place-based objective is the first building built at Westbrook Seminary in 1835. Lovingly restored, Alumni Hall in Portland will once again be the centerpiece of campus life and learning. Generous estate gifts and trusts from Westbrook alumni have funded the start of renovations, but many more will be asked to give in honor of the history and the legacy it represents.
