GPACU: The Greater Portland Alliance of Colleges and Universities

What is GPACU?

The GPACU is a group of six colleges and universities in the Greater Portland area who have agreed to share resources and transfer credits for courses taken at any participating school.

Current GPACU members :

  • Maine College of Art
  • Saint Joseph’s College
  • Southern Maine Community College
  • University of New England
  • University of Southern Maine
  • Kaplan University

Students, faculty and staff at a GPACU school may borrow from the libraries of any other GPACU member.

How do I borrow from a GPACU Library?

UNE students, faculty and staff: Go to the GPACU library in person and present your UNE ID card. Your UNE library record must be free of any fines or overdue items for you to be able to borrow from a GPACU library.

Students, faculty and staff from another GPACU school: Individuals presenting a valid ID from a GPACU school may borrow from the UNE Libraries anytime we are open to the public. Check our hours for details.

Search the online catalogs of the GPACU Libraries or the statewide catalog MaineCat to find out if a participating library has what you need.

How long can I keep things?

The individual GPACU libraries will decide how long you will get to keep their items. Their policies may vary. Visit their library websites or contact the libraries for more information.

Where can I return a GPACU item?

GPACU items must be brought back to the GPACU library they were borrowed from. UNE borrowers cannot return GPACU items to the UNE Libraries.
