Marji Harmer-Beem received her degree in dental hygiene from Westbrook College Dental Hygiene Program in Portland, Maine in 1977 and her Master of Science degree in education from the University of Southern Maine in 1993. She has taught advanced clinical dental hygiene, clinical periodontology, practice management, and ethics. Professor Harmer-Beem has published many articles and written book chapters related to clinical practice. She has held leadership positions in faculty governance. She has been the recipient of prestigious teaching and service awards at the university and in the professional community.  She now serves as dental hygiene program director.

On going collection of data with respect to integration of critical thinking in the major of dental hygiene, analysis of interdisciplinary ethics course implementation.
