Philip Shelley, B.A.

Creative Strategist

On campus

Philip spent over a decade as a copywriter, content strategist, and associate creative director at a number of New York advertising agencies, where he helped create innovative, effective, award-winning work for Fortune-500 clients ranging from Jose Cuervo to M&M’s, Verizon, and Bank of America.

A burgeoning passion for education brought Philip to Maine, where he studied to become a teacher at USM, and became deeply involved in educational issues and the local educational community. He has worked as a part-time tutor and academic coach at Cheverus and Deering High Schools, and has done freelance work for Pearson.

Prior to his arrival at UNE, Philip served as the Writer/Web Editor for Bard College at Simon’s Rock, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where he managed copy and content for an award-winning website redesign, and was the co-creator of a wildly successful animation-based prospect-targeted email stream, which has more than tripled click-through rates.

He is extremely happy to return to Maine, and to serve an institution as unique and vibrant as UNE -- one that has such an interesting past and is poised for such a dynamic future.  The opportunity to help give voice to that future is incredibly exciting.

Philip is a lifelong musician and songwriter, with several CD releases, as well a writer of short fiction. In his spare time he enjoys reading and writing and exploring Maine.
