English

"I have been an avid writer and reader ever since I was a small child, so becoming an English major seemed completely natural. The writing process is difficult, but when I finish a class assignment or a personal project, I always have a sense that I have created something unique. I love to travel, but when I cannot physically travel, reading transports me to different places and times. It opens my mind to the world's vast possibilities. I also enjoy that English can be interdisciplinary, so that I can explore areas in history, science, or art through my chosen field. One of the main reasons I chose UNE is that it is close to home, but it offers so much. The campus is beautiful! I love the ocean, and being able to see the water through the trees while I walk to class transforms the mundane to the extraordinary. It is a small community, so I don't feel lost among huge crowds of students. The faculty and staff at UNE are kind and welcoming; they are always available if I have a question or problem. The English Department is very strong, boasting wonderful professors and a wide range of interesting courses.

"I became involved with the University's literary journal, Zephyr, when I was a sophomore, as a member of the editorial board. I was offered the position of editor-in-chief and remained so until my graduation. For two years, I gained hands-on knowledge about the editorial and publishing process, which was a great opportunity for me. I think that Zephyr is an important component of the UNE community, and I am honored to have participated in its history."
