Summary of Plan Updates

Below please find a summary of the most recent information within sections of the UNE Onward Plan that have been updated since the initial version, as of October 22, 2020.

Landing Page: definition of hybrid instruction altered to say that we are providing a “full curriculum” of fall courses in which “each course” is taught using a combination of face-to-face and online instruction.

Landing Page: Study abroad updated to pertain to spring semester.

Landing Page: “Testing before fall term” was updated to “Testing before spring term” and “all undergraduate students” was changed to “all students.”

“Fall” was removed from the statement on Athletics, and it was changed to reflect that all varsity athletics competition has been suspended until further notice.

II.D.1. Face coverings must cover nose and mouth. Added link to CDC guidelines for most effective use of masks.

II.D.1. Neck gaiters, bandanas, scarves, and masks with exhalation vents are not approved face coverings. References to “face coverings” changed to “face masks.”

II.D.1. Change in policy on face coverings. Faculty no longer able to wear face shields in lieu of masks when teaching unless granted a formal accommodation. Added language about subjects removing face masks during photo/video shoots.

II.D.4. Added information about surveillance testing, clarified that there are two types of tests (viral and antibody) and UNE requires viral. Added link to CDC info on the difference between the two types of tests, added link to a site that helps find testing facilities near you, added link to an at-home test option, cautioned that if turn-around time in your area exceeds 72 hours, you should plan ahead and get the test early and then quarantine until you get the results.

II.G.3. Language added to the testing section to explain the expanded testing protocols that UNE adopted on Sept. 16, 2020.

II.G.4. The word “antigen” was changed to “antibody” when describing the other type of test that we do NOT accept. (We accept only viral test).

II.G.4. All students (undergrad and grad students) must upload evidence of a negative viral COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival on campus for the spring term. All students will then be tested again by Student Health Services upon check-in.

II.G.6. Strike mention of a mobile application.

II.G.7. Students awaiting test results and/or who have a positive COVID-19 test “who choose to” return home and do not have high-risk individuals in their household “may do so” (rather than “should”).

II.G.8. Added info to Plan for Positive Cases and Those Awaiting Test Results: students waiting results should stay in their residence hall rooms. In some cases, when a student is in a double room on a traditional floor (not a suite), the student may be temporarily relocated during the waiting period. Added info about the suites in East Hall (quarantine residence hall): they have kitchenettes and single bedrooms.

II.J. A secondary, complementary campus signage campaign is underway.

III.C. All fall undergraduate semester programs in Spain, France, and Morocco, as well as all short-term travel programs and the Professional Science Master’s in Ocean Food Systems’ program in Iceland have been cancelled. However, the undergraduate semester in Iceland will proceed as scheduled.

III.D. Info on library services updated, added link to UNE Library Services Plan and Requirements to Resume On-Campus Operations.

IV. Student Life section updated to inform that hotel space has been secured, provides RA and shuttle service info. Move-In plan updated to past tense, Residence Hall Conduct Plan updated with link to Attestation and Community Care Requirement policy, which sets conduct expectations (reinforced by a training module in Blackboard); dining policy has been established.

V. Phased in team scrimmages for varsity sports during final two weeks of fall practice season in conjunction with weekly surveillance testing protocol.

V. All varsity sport competition has been suspended until further notice.

VII. Allowable exceptions to visitor restrictions include pre-scheduled, [added “approved”] visits of students’ family.
