The English and Language Studies (ELS) major at the University of New England reflects the strong faith of the faculty in the enduring values of a classical liberal education. It introduces students to various languages, cultural traditions, and global literary works and trains them in the careful analysis of texts, ranging from traditional novels, poetry, and drama to film, legal and health narratives.

imageThe ELS curriculum covers the world's main languages and literary traditions. Through a variety of pedagogical and  theoretical approaches, students not only will learn how to analyze the heavily textualized environment around them, they also will develop sophisticated insights into the world’s multiple cultural traditions. Our progressive curriculum is flexible and our advising careful and thorough enough to respond to the intellectual and professional needs of students. We are committed to giving our students a first-rate liberal education that also prepares them for a variety of occupations and graduate programs.

The program is housed on UNE's seaside University Campus in Biddeford, Maine.
