The Core Connections lecture series correlates with UNE’s undergraduate Core curriculum that remains committed to the values of an education in the liberal arts. The series is meant to model different disciplinary perspectives on a topic and to encourage students’ engagement with scholarly work beyond the classroom.
UNE's undergraduate curriculum is well known for its four core themes: Environmental Awareness, Social and Global Awareness, Critical Thinking, and Citizenship. In the academic year 2013-2014, we will examine the first two themes. In the Fall of 2013, the series brings to campus two scholars who can speak both to catastrophic and more gradual forms of environmental change, but in the Spring of 2014, the series will focus on social responses to and cultural representations of disaster.
