The Role of Lipids in Pharmacokinetics and Activity of Hydrophobic Drugs

Dr. Pavel Gershkovich is currently a research associate in the Division of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the same Division for the period of May 2007 to August 2009. Dr. Gershkovich has completed his B.Pharm., MSc in clinical pharmacy and Ph.D. degree in pharmaceutical sciences in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. His research interests include novel drug delivery methods to overcome the barriers to systemic absorption of active molecules following oral administration; mechanisms of intestinal absorption and disposition of lipophilic compounds (including intestinal lymphatic transport); effects of food and its composition on absorption, disposition, action and toxicity of drugs; and effects of disease states on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs.  To date, Dr. Gershkovich has published 16 articles in peer-reviewed literature and 14 abstracts in these research fields.
