The Color of Violence: Challenging a Violent Culture
Reanae McNeal is an international performing artist, vocalist, motivational speaker, griottess (storyteller), and trainer. She has lectured extensively on how race, gender, and class issues play a role in the oppression of women especially as it pertains to women of color.
Using performance techniques including storytelling and poetry, this performance lecture will explore global issues affecting women of color and intimate violence. Ms. McNeal is an award-winning playwright and the recipient of many community awards including Women of a Stolen Legacy Award, and NAACP Image Award, the Women of Achievement Award and the Peace Project Award. A published poet and playwright, she has been published in national journals such as "Sisters Across Cultures" and "Running Deer Press".
At the conclusion of this workshop, students will be able to:

- Increase understanding of how the role of culture and oppression impact the response of women of color to violence
- Examine how stereotypes of women of color impact their accessibility to humane healthcare
- Raise awareness of the importance in embracing diversity in healthcare practices
