Report of Philanthropy

Welcome to the 2012-13 Report of Philanthropy. As you find your name among those of your classmates, friends, business partners and colleagues, I hope you’ll also get a sense of the diversity of philanthropic support for the University of New England.

Alumni, parents and friends of UNE, Westbrook Junior College, Westbrook College, St. Francis College and our faculty and staff are well represented here; the values of our founding institutions have remained central to the UNE mission and have provided a solid foundation for UNE’s growth and success.

The enormous generosity of the Northern New England dental community is evident here as well. It was through their support and advocacy that the College of Dental Medicine welcomed its inaugural class and opened the doors of a state-of-the-art clinical and teaching facility for Northern New England’s first dental college. Alumni and friends came together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Dental Hygiene program; likewise, alumni and friends of the College of Osteopathic Medicine marked their 30th year anniversary with a fundraising gala to support student scholarships. In January, we’ll open a new campus in Morocco. This report includes the many generous donations that make it possible for UNE students to study abroad at no additional cost.

A college education is an investment for students, and at UNE we continue to make sure our students receive an excellent return. In a recent study of 2012 graduates, 90% of UNE students were working in their field of choice or attending a graduate or professional school within six months of graduating.

At the President’s Circle Gala this past May, we heard from students whose lives have been changed by scholarship support from you and others. I invite you to hear their voices and stories and learn how your investment in them is changing their lives. On behalf of all of our students, thank you. Your support helps create another extraordinary year at UNE!
