The University of New England’s College of Pharmacy, in partnership with Synageva BioPharma, has launched a two-year Biopharmaceutical Fellowship.   Headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts, Synageva BioPharma shares a passion and commitment to improving the lives of patients suffering from rare diseases.  The Synageva motto is that "Every Second Counts when discovering, developing, and delivering therapies to these patients."

The UNE-Synageva Biopharmaceutical Fellowship will focus on Medical Affairs and will create new educational opportunities for pharmacy students at UNE, including an elective course in the Biotechnology Industry and advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs).

Dr. Alexandra Malinowski, UNE Pharmacy class of 2014, is the inaugural fellow of this new program and has been appointed as an adjunct instructor in the College of Pharmacy.  She will coordinate the new Biotechnology Elective Course and will co-precept students on BioPharmaceutical APPEs at Synageva.  She will work directly with the Research, Regulatory Affairs, and Medical Affairs teams at Synageva in the launch of their new product, sebelipase alfa, an enzyme replacement therapy for human lysosomal acid lipase deficiency.
