Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration "A Revolution of Values"

Reverend Dr. H. Roy Partridge, Jr.
Free and open to the public

Dr. Partridge is a professor, an ordained Episcopal priest and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who has worked in the public, private and non-profit sector as a social worker, Priest, lecturer/instructor, administrator in higher education and program coordinator. He holds a Master’s of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School, a Ph.D. in Social Work and Sociology, M.A in Sociology and an M.S.W. from the University of Michigan. He is currently a visiting professor at Bowdoin College in the Sociology Department/Africana Studies where he teaches a course on racism and also serves as Special Assistant to the President for Multicultural Affairs. 

Student Learning Outcomes:
1.    Explore where we are today, post civil-rights movement in regards to social justice, human and civil rights issues.
2.    Recognize how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s quest for justice and equality is still relevant today by examining how race, racism, and poverty exist in contemporary times.
3.    Examine the role of the individual in social change movements and how the conflict of personal values with cultural or societal values often leads to systemic change.
4.    In the spirit of MLK, Jr.’s dream for a revolution of values, recognize the role of healthcare professionals in being change agents for a “person-oriented society” and understanding and breaking down barriers to health.










Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Recognize how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s quest for justice and equality is relevant more than ever in our society
  • Examine ways to counteract racism, poverty and social injustice in Maine 
  • In the spirit of MLK, Jr.’s words, recognize the roles and responsibilities of all healthcare professionals to promote civility, raise critical/community consciousness and practice compassionate care
