This program takes place prior to the Traditional Campus-Based Orientation session, and ends in time for you to participate in it fully.

$75 additional cost

This program provides you with the chance to participate in an in-depth service project at a Maine Elephant rescue, Hope Elephants. You are not in direct contact with the elephants. The trip is focused on maintaining the facilities where the elephants live, as well as on providing other assistance as needed. Current UNE students act as guides and provide opportunities throughout the experience for you to learn about UNE's different community partners and to ask questions about adjusting to life at UNE. The guides also provide time for both opening and closing activities during which you bond with the other student volunteers. This experience is ideal for you if you are looking to learn more about the surrounding community. It helps connect you with a local rescue organization and promotes a culture of service right from the very beginning of your college experience. Overnights are spent in one of the Residence Halls, and meals are provided both on campus and at the volunteer site. For more information visit the Hope Elephants website.
