Dr. Scott M. Fishman is Chief of the Division of Pain Medicine and Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of California, Davis. He was formerly Medical Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Pain Center at Harvard Medical School.  His medical degree is from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He has received formal clinical training is in Internal Medicine (Greenwich/Yale University School of Medicine) and Psychiatry (Massachusetts General/Harvard Medical School). He completed Pain Medicine fellowship training through the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Fishman lectures on all aspects of pain and its treatment throughout the US.  He has written numerous books on pain management and has many peer-reviewed articles in medical journals, book chapters, and other scholarly reviews. He is senor editor of the journal Pain Medicine and serves on the editorial boards of numerous other medical journals.

He advocates for the field of pain medicine with consumers and lawmakers, having testified in both state and national legislatures. Dr. Fishman has spoken about pain widely in the major TV media such as the Today Show, Good Morning America and the ABC Nightly News and has been quoted in the major written press such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine and Newsweek. He has been honored and awarded numerous times for his contribution to the pain managment field and has most recently received the University of California, Davis Dean’s award for Excellence in Mentoring.
