College of Pharmacy's immunization training program garners media attention

A Portland Press Herald news story on Oct. 2, 2009 focused on a new state law that allows pharmacists to give flu shots and other immunizations. UNE's new College of Pharmacy is now offering training for pharmacists to meet the certification requirements of the Board of Pharmacy for the immunizations. Kenneth McCall, associate professor and chair of UNE's Department of Pharmacy Practice, said the law will help Maine reach its goal of a 90 percent flu vaccination rate among the elderly by 2010. The story was also published in the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel.
