UNE College of Pharmacy Volunteers Recognized

The 2010 Annual Report of the Biddeford Free Clinic highlights the work of UNE Pharmacy Faculty Volunteers. The Biddeford Free Clinic is the only free clinic in Maine with a licensed pharmacy.  Here are several exerts from their annual report.

"Patient wellness is possible thanks to our pharmacy volunteers.  The journey to wellness often includes prescription medications.  Unfortunately, cost and other obstacles such as time and transportation make some patients less likely to fill needed prescriptions.  Pharmacy professors from the University of New England School of Pharmacy began volunteering at the clinic in September of 2009 and we can't imagine how we did it without them!"

The following UNE faculty are recognized by name and photo in their annual report: Dr. Emily Dornblaser, Dr. James Krebs, Dr. Matthew Lacroix, Dr. Kenneth McCall, and Dr. Wesley Zemrak.  The volunteer work of these faculty truly exemplifies the motto, "We are neighbors helping neighbors."  The efforts of pharmacy faculty and other volunteers at the Biddeford Free Clinic are increasingly important as the number of Americans without health insurance increased by almost 4 million from 2008 to 2010 due to higher rates of unemployment.

The attitudes, values and good works of our staff and faculty create a culture of caring and community service that cultivates professionalism in our pharmacy students.  Thank you, Emily, Matt, Jim, and Wes for leading by example!
