Deena Small co-authors article in the journal Adipocyte

Deena J. Small Ph.D., Associate Professor of Chemistry, co-authored a paper recently accepted for publication in the journal Adipocyte.  The article entitled  "Effect of Soluble Jagged-1- mediated Inhibition of Notch Signaling on Proliferation and Differentiation of an Adipocyte Progenitor Cell Model" examined the role that a protein known to inhibit the Notch Signaling System had on the ability of stem cells to become mature fat cells.  This work provides new information on the regulation of adipose tissue development and may therefore shed light on Obesity and its related pathologies.  Dr. Small contributed to this research through her ongoing collaboration with Drs. Lucy Liaw and Sumithra Urs at Maine Medical Center Research Institute (Scarborough, Maine).  The citation is Adipocyte, 2012
