Faculty development conference organized by Jennifer Stiegler-Balfour highlights use of science of learning in classroom and online settings

Assistant Professor of psychology, Jennifer Stiegler-Balfour, Ph.D., organized a Faculty Development Conference titled “Applying the Science of Learning in Face-to-Face and Online classes” on UNE’s Biddeford campus on August 21, 2012.

Bringing together faculty from UNE and other institutions of higher learning throughout New England, the conference focused on exploring recent developments in the science of learning as they apply to higher education, and on engaging participants in considering how they might develop and implement instructional approaches informed by the science of learning.

Keynote presentations were delivered by Barney Beins, Ph.D., professor of psychology, Ithaca College, and Victor Benassi, Ph.D., professor of psychology and director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, University of New Hampshire, both of whom are distinguished authorities on the science of teaching and learning and recipients of numerous teaching awards.

The conference was made possible by a Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP) Partnership Grant (Division 2 of the American Psychological Association) and a STP Master Teacher Speaker award.
