Financial aid unraveled: Advice for the college bound

Paul Henderson, executive director of University of New England’s Student Financial Services, and UNE’s panel of financial aid experts will offer a presentation that delves deeper into the complexities of financing a college education and provide an opportunity to get questions answered.

The free info sessions in November will offer valuable tips and strategies to simplify the financial aid process and help high school students make well-informed decisions about funding a college investment regardless of where they want to attend college.

Henderson states, “Financial aid is complex. In our sessions, we aim to provide information that goes beyond the basics of financial aid and offers families insight to guide them to more informed financial decisions regarding college. Our goal is to shed some light on this complex process and help families understand where to turn for information on funding whatever college they choose.”

Some of the questions Henderson will address include:
•    What is the return on investment of a college degree?
•    What exactly IS financial aid and how is eligibility determined?
•    How do institutions differ in how they award financial aid?
•    What are the different options and things to consider when funding your college education?

Students and their families can also come prepared with questions, as time for Q&A will be allocated at the end of the program.  High school guidance counselors are also invited to attend.

The info sessions are being offered November 4 at UNE’s Portland Campus, College of Pharmacy Room 109 at 6:30 p.m., and November 13 at UNE’s Biddeford Campus, Harold Alfond Forum, Rooms 230-231.
