Jared Kutzin publishes article on patient safety; chairs simulation-based education components for NPSF conference

Jared Kutzin, DNP, MPH, RN, MMEL’13, has published a feature commentary on patient safety titled "Health Information Technology and Patient Safety Have We Forgotten the Basics?" in the spring 2013 issue of the Journal of Health Information Management. The article looks at the need to carefully scrutinize the removal of simple patient safety measures after implementing technological advances that automate processes and aim to make care safer.

Kutzin also attended the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) annual congress in New Orleans May 7-10, 2013.  As chair of the simulation-based education components for the conference, he worked with colleagues from Kaiser Permanente, North-Shore LIJ, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Yale-New Haven Hospital, and SiTEL to successfully implement an 8-hour pre-congress workshop focusing on starting a simulation program and using simulation as a tool to teach patient safety topics.

Kutzin is simulation director at Winthrop-University Hospital and an adjunct faculty member at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
