Marilyn Gugliucci publishes book reviews in ‘The Gerontologist’

Marilyn R. Gugliucci, Ph.D., director of Geriatrics Education and Research in the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM), was requested by Frank J. Whittington, Ph.D., editor in chief of The Gerontologist journal to conduct three book reviews and interweave results from the COM Learning by Living Ethnographic Research Project (whereby medical students are admitted into nursing homes for two weeks, complete with a medical diagnosis to live the life of an older adult nursing home resident). Gugliucci’s reviews were published in the June 23, 2014 issue of The Gerontologist.

The three books reviewed included:

Elise M. Beaulieu (2012). A Guide for Nursing Home Social Workers, 2nd Edition. Springer Publishing Co., New York, 389 pp.;
Sandra J. Gaffney (2012). Making Myself at Home in a Nursing Home. Vanderbilt University Press, Nashville, TN, 170 pp.;
Gayle Appel Doll (2012). Sexuality and Long-Term Care: Understanding and Supporting the Needs of Older Adults. Health Professions Press, Baltimore, MD, 267 pp.

Each book presented an aspect of nursing home life, all of which the student researchers experienced during their extended stays in nursing homes.
