Anouar Majid quoted in ‘University World News’ article on growing hate crime concerns among students

Anouar Majid, Ph.D., vice president for Global Affairs and director of the Center for Global Humanities, was quoted in a University World News article titled "Safety concerns grow as campus hate crime increases."

The article discussed the safety concerns of Arab Muslim students and academics who are studying and working in western universities and research centers after last month’s killing of three University of North Carolina students who were Arab. According to the article, in the wake of the January 7 Charlie Hebdo attacks in France, fear among Arab Muslim students in all non-Arab countries is climbing.

Majid asserted that the recent tragic events should not be viewed as a warning sign of problems to come for university students. "I don’t expect anything to change dramatically," he said. "Jihadism will be monitored more closely, for sure, but university students will be fine."
