Noah Perlut’s work with field nesting birds featured in 'InFARMation'
Noah Perlut, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Environmental Studies, was featured in the most recent issue of InFARMation, the newsletter of Shelburne Farms in Shelburne, Vermont.
The article discussed Perlut’s recent return to Shelburne Farms, the location in which he first began his studies of grassland birds as a graduate student 14 years ago. This spring, Perlut, along with undergraduate and graduate students, spent two weeks at the farm, conducting a census of returning birds and netting them for information retrieval.
Studies of the birds have shown that they need a 65-days period to complete their nesting cycle. Perlut is part of an effort to convince farmers to alter their hay harvesting practices to accommodate the birds’ needs.
