Brian Duff, Ph.D., associate professor and chair in the Department of Political Science, was interviewed by the Portland Press Herald for an article in its May 1 issue about the possibility of Donald Trump asking Senator Susan Collins of Maine to be his running mate in the presidential election.

Duff expressed that he did not see the match-up as likely. “I cannot imagine she would say yes even if he asked her,” he said, “unless she harbors a secret desire for national notoriety that we had not noticed until now. It would hurt her reputation in Maine, nationally and among her colleagues,” he added.

Duff went on to explain that although Trump and Collins both differ from the typical Republican politician, they do not differ in the same ways, rendering them incompatible as running mates.
