Meghan May discusses Lyme disease testing on ‘WCSH’
Meghan May, Ph.D., associate professor of biomedical sciences in the University of New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, shared her expertise on the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease on the “MORNING REPORT” on WCSH 6.
The month of May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month. May discussed the current research to establish better testing and diagnostic methods for Lyme disease. She said current tests are problematic because they are less reliable when the Lyme infection is new.
“By and large it tends to be reliable versus not based on timing, which is really unfortunate because the earlier a diagnosis is made and treatment is started, the more likely you are to have a positive outcome and avoid these long term consequences.”
May will serve as keynote speaker at an event sponsored by the organization, LymeBuddies on Sunday, May 1, 2016. The event taken place at Jimmy The Greeks, 150 Philbrook Ave in South Portland from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
