Matt Scheuer '16 prepares to drop his underwater ROV into the ocean

When the WCSH show “207” visited the Makerspace at the University of New England in May of 2016, they immediately gravitated toward senior Matt Scheuer and the underwater remotely operated vehicle he was building. Now, as a recent UNE graduate Scheuer is perfecting the technology and working toward putting the ROV on the market.

In November, Scheuer returned to Biddeford for a demonstration with the ROV for UNE faculty and students. “207” came along to capture the technology in action. Underwater drones typically retail for about $10,000. Scheuer hopes to sell his for $1,500 to make them more affordable and accessible to buyers.
