UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine’s U-ExCEL Balancing Act program selected for pilot grant

The U-ExCEL Balancing Act program, has been selected as the balance program that will be distributed to community dwelling older adults as part of the Physician Hospital Organization of MaineHealth Pilot Grant.  The program was designed and published by Anne Cowles, M.P.H., U-ExCEL fitness director and Marilyn Gugliucci, Ph.D., professor, director of Geriatrics and Research and U-ExCEL director.

Balancing Act is one of the 3 evidence-based interventions that will be implemented with 40 older people to provide enhanced transitional care to help prevent another hospitalization.  The lead organizations for the grant are the Southern Maine Agency on Aging in Scarborough and Spectrum Generations Agency on Aging in Augusta. Cowles will be conducting the training sessions for the grant personnel.
