On October 4, 2016, the University of New England signed an agreement with Sanford High School that will allow Sanford High students to earn college transfer credit at UNE in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). The credits may be earned by receiving qualifying scores on Advanced Placement exams or by successfully completing eligible courses at York County Community College and/or the University of Southern Maine.

The agreement was signed by Jeanne Hey, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Marianne Sylvain, Sanford High School principal.

Students admitted to UNE through this agreement may major in any program offered by the College of Arts and Sciences, including subjects in the humanities, arts, social sciences, education, business, natural sciences and others.

The agreement provides an opportunity for high performing Sanford High School students who matriculate at UNE to complete their college education in just 75 percent of the time it usually takes and with just 75 percent of the expense.

UNE currently has similar agreements with Thornton Academy, Biddeford High School, the Maine Girls’ Academy and several community colleges.
