Amy Keirstead, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics, recently published a news item in Chemical & Engineering News, the weekly publication of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The piece reported on the Maine ACS Local Section (MEACS) Student Leaders’ Workshop that was held in September and organized by Keirstead in her capacity as MEACS Student Groups Coordinator.

The workshop brought together student chemistry groups from across the state and included hands-on activities and networking and brainstorming sessions to activate the student groups for the coming year.

Also representing UNE at the workshop were Melanie DiLorenzo, M.S., assistant Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and Physics and MEACS National Chemistry Week coordinator, as well as five members of the UNE Chemistry Club (an ACS student chapter): President Katie Chalmers (Medical Biology, ’18); co-Vice Presidents Brea Rivard (Biochemistry and Applied Mathematics, ’19) and Jessica White (Biochemistry and Applied Mathematics, ’19), Treasurer Erica Bonitatibus (Medical Biology, ’20) and Cassandra Ray (Athletic Training, ’20).
