Mahvish Junaidi, M.D., M.P.H. ’17, of the University of New England Graduate Programs in Public Health, gave a presentation at the Maine Public Health Association conference based on the capstone paper she developed for her practicum course titled, “Coordination of Care to Improve the Delivery of Mental Health Services in Rural Maine.”

In rural areas, availability, accessibility, and acceptance of mental health services complicate the delivery of mental health services. Junaidi’s study determined the prevalence of depression as seen at a critical access hospital in a rural community in Maine, and identified opportunities for collaboration between providers of primary care and mental health services in the community.
