Getting real about climate change: ‘Bangor Daily News’ publishes piece by UNE’s Charles Tilburg

Charles Tilburg

The Bangor Daily News published an opinion piece written by University of New England College of Arts and Sciences Associate Dean Charles Tilburg, Ph.D., titled, “Climate change is real. Now, let’s debate what to do about it.”

The article takes a strong position on the fact that climate change is real, from the position of a scientist. Tilburg points to undisputed facts such as warming seas and rising global temperatures, as well as the various ways in which scientists have been and continue to research the evidence. He calls on policy makers to end the debate over climate change and work toward solutions. “

The U.S. has become the technological leader of the world,” Tilburg wrote. “Our nation’s scientists have developed technologies that have allowed us to accomplish everything from travel to the moon to placing a mechanical heart into a human body. Our colleges and universities are the envy of other nations. Our politicians should not disregard what the dedicated men and women of science are saying.”
