Maine state representative welcomes students back to UNE for fall semester

University of New England

Rep. Martin Grohman (D-Biddeford) welcomed students back to the University of New England in an article in the Courier.

In the article, Grohman shares the history of UNE and how it has grown. He states that while some college towns see a major separation between the students and the residents, UNE students are part of the Biddeford community.

“They volunteer in our schools and help out local nonprofits,” he wrote. “On Volunteer Day last fall more than 500 students fanned out across the city to do park cleanups and gardening projects. It’s common to see UNE students at our local coffee shops and participating in productions at City Theater.”

Grohman also cited the strength and growth of UNE’s athletic programs.

“We are fortunate to have this world class university as part of our heritage and our community. Please join me in welcoming the students of the University of New England to Biddeford for the upcoming school year.”
