Leadership

Personal Leadership Plan (PLP)

The Personal Leadership Plan is generally completed in the sophomore year and is the second phase of the exploration and goal setting initiated with the Personal Involvement Plan (PIP). The PLP, once complete, will assist you in beginning to populate your Co-Curricular Transcript.

Sophomore Scholar

Students who have taken on a leadership role in their first year are encouraged to apply to the Sophomore Scholars program. Up to ten students will be approved for this $1,000 scholarship. Participants will complete the PIP and/or PLP, meet regularly with a ULEAD advisor, initiate a co-curricular transcript and participate in leadership workshops and retreats. For those interested in expanding their leadership portfolio, the Sophomore Scholar program is fantastic opportunity.

Continuing Your Journey

Co-Curricular Transcript

The Co-Curricular Transcript is an online resource that provides students with a visual display of all of their experiences outside the classroom at UNE. These experiences may include the following: leadership roles, club involvement, athletic activities, jobs, internships, research and global education opportunities. Students are encouraged to update their co-curricular transcripts and include the final versions in a portfolio for interviews for graduate school and jobs.

Internships

Students are encouraged to pursue at least one internship opportunity during their time at UNE. The Office of Career Advising has a full listing of internship opportunities on the UNE Job Board. Some departments have specific internship listings for their majors as well. Many students in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) work with the CAS Internship Office for their internship experiences. The Office of Career Advising can assist students with best internship faculty and department contact for their major.

Global Education

The Global Education Program develops and promotes global educational and research opportunities. It works closely with all colleges of the University by providing support services to students and faculty engaged in global explorations, and by assisting international students, scholars and visitors to UNE. Students are encouraged to connect with Global Education early in order to explore the best timing for coursework abroad.

MAPWorks

MAPWorks is a research-based approach to student success. Pairing demographic information with survey data collected from sophomore students in the fall and spring semesters, MAPWorks produces individualized reports which coach you on the behaviors that support your achievement. The individualized reports also coach you on the services you should avail yourself of in order to make the most of what the University has to offer.

Rising Star Workshop

All first-year and sophomore students are encouraged to attend at least one Rising Star Workshop facilitated by professional staff in the Office of Career Advising. During each workshop, students will learn about the following topics: resumes, cover letters, co-curricular transcripts, LinkedIn, and interviewing skills. These workshops are particularly helpful for students applying to on-campus jobs or leadership positions as well as students preparing for internship opportunities.

Transition Programs

In preparation for students who will transition from the Biddeford Campus to the Portland Campus, the Offices of Graduate and Professional Student Affairs and Housing and Residential/Commuter Life host events aimed at acquainting you with that transition.  Students will learn what to expect academically, professionally,  and personally through the transition to your graduate or professional program.
