The Collection's Marioff Hi-Fog High Pressure Misting System

The Marioff "Hi-Fog" high pressure misting system, manufactured in Finland, is installed in and beneath the collection storage rooms in the facility to provide protection from fire that will not itself damage rare materials during the discharge of mist.

The effectiveness of the system lies in the reaction of the heated air with the water mist. The heated room converts the discharging mist to water vapor (steam). This conversion utilizes the energy of the heat, effectively lowering the temperature and simultaneously smothering a fire and scrubbing smoke and particulates from the air down to the floor.

This self-contained unit holds 40 gallons of filtered water and a tank of nitrogen, which delivers the water to the heads under high pressure. The system is connected to the misting heads by 1/2" stainless steel tubing. The unit operates independently of other building systems, but is wired to the main fire alarm panel to notify the security and facility departments, and the local fire department.

Our system was installed by Maine's Eastern Fire Protection company and was planned and is maintained by the UNE facilities department.
