NBC Boston interviewed University of New England Marine Science Professor James Sulikowski, Ph.D., about his shark research, which will be featured in an upcoming episode of “Shark Week” on Discovery.

The story, which also aired on NECN, WCSH and WLBZ, focused on Sulikowski’s current research tracking porbeagle sharks. He and his students have been outfitting the sharks with satellite tags to track their movements.

"This area, in the Gulf of Maine, appears to be a nursery ground," said Sulikowski. "It’s a place that they have to grow up, and live. We think this area might be vital to their survival."

“Shark Vortex” airs Monday, July 24 at 8 p.m. on Discovery.
