Elizabeth Francis-Connolly, dean of the U N E Westbrook College of Health ProfessionsMessage from the Dean

Welcome to the Westbrook College of Health Professions!

The Westbrook College of Health Professions prepares graduates to practice, lead and excel in today’s complex health care environment. The College is comprised of undergraduate and graduate programming, with faculty dedicated to relationship-focused, student-centered learning experiences.

The philosophy of the College is grounded in interprofessional education and collaborative practice, and all majors and programs are committed to this endeavor. We understand the best health outcomes are achieved when care is well-coordinated by a team of professionals. Students in the College enjoy numerous curricular and extra-curricular interprofessional opportunities, learning and working together not only to gain competence in their chosen discipline, but also proficiency in collaborative practice. Interprofessional educational experiences occur both on-campus in academic and laboratory settings, as well as through community-based experiential learning. Our graduates are well prepared and ready to contribute to collaborative team-based health care.

The College is additionally committed to public service and favorably impacting the health outcomes for patients, families and populations in the region and beyond. Together, students, faculty and staff engage in meaningful service learning, thereby contributing to healthier communities and deepening an understanding of today’s societal health challenges. In this way, the College aims to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.

Our faculty are dedicated educators, scholars and expert practitioners. They are passionate about their disciplines, infusing excitement and ‘real world’ learning into the classroom, laboratory, clinic and community experiences. Our faculty are well-engaged in funded research, providing students with numerous opportunities to participate in vibrant scholarship.

Our facilities include a state-of-the-art Clinical Simulation Center, newly opened in 2017, along with a Motion Analysis Laboratory and a Community Therapy Clinic. Our modern Dental Hygiene clinic has served the region for 50 years, providing care to 5,000 patients annually.

The Bureau of Labor projects healthcare to be among the fastest-growing industries in the United States economy. This is an exciting time to explore health professions education. I encourage you to visit our beautiful Biddeford and Portland campuses. I look forward to meeting you!

Warm regards,
