UNE Office of Communications takes home six statewide public relations awards

The Maine Public Relations Council's annual Golden Arrow Awards recognize the best public relations and communications work in the state.

The University of New England’s Office of Communications took home several top awards at this year’s Golden Arrow Awards ceremony, hosted by the Maine Public Relations Council.

The Golden Arrow Awards recognize the best public relations and communications work in the state, including all pieces of strategic communication from annual reports, media relations campaigns, video production, and everything in between. UNE’s Office of Communications took home six gold and silver awards during the ceremony, held April 26 at UNE’s own Alumni Hall.

The Office of Communications was awarded the following:

  • Communications Campaign (Gold), awarded to UNE and TVP Communications, a higher-education public relations firm that has partnered with UNE to bolster national media attention, for its campaign “UNE to build broader awareness of health and medical programs.” Judges’ remarks: “Campaign generated an impressive amount of coverage on an important topic … well done!”
  • Editorial/Op-Ed Columns (Silver), awarded to UNE and Kathryn Brandt, D.O. ’97, chair of the Department of Primary Care within UNE’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, for her Op-Ed in Fortune, titled “Doctors must get political to get the politics out of medicine.” Judges’ remarks: “Good stats and at a glance information in the publication … the results look great.”
  • Magazines (Silver), awarded to UNE for the 2022 issue of the UNE Magazine, “How Do We Prepare Students to Succeed in a Fractured Society?” Judges’ remarks: “Well-designed magazine — Bravo!”
  • Media Relations Campaign (Gold), awarded to UNE for its media relations campaign “Biomedical Research To Better Our World,” designed to showcase several groundbreaking research initiatives in the biomedical sciences, including a $6.6 million grant to study ocular pain and other prominent studies. Judges’ remarks: “The method was impressive. Results and execution were excellent.”
  • Podcast (Silver), awarded to UNE and TVP Communications for its weeklong takeover of “The Academic Minute” Podcast, a daily podcast highlighting researchers from colleges and universities around the world. Judges’ remarks: “Great way to strengthen the reputation of both the school and instructors. Nice variety of topics/speakers.”
  • Special Events (Gold), awarded to UNE and Institutional Advancement for its groundbreaking ceremony for the Harold and Bibby Alfond Center for Health SciencesJudges’ remarks: “Exceeded objective results with earned media and attendees … well thought-out and executed.”
