UNE Constitution Day 2013: Spielberg's Lincoln, Slavery, and the American Constitution
Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787. The University of New England Department of Political Science and the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office present, “Spielberg's Lincoln, Slavery, and the American Constitution,” a moderated discussion celebrating Constitution Day on Monday, September 16th, 2013.
In advance of the discussion, there is a free screening of the Steven Spielberg movie "Lincoln" this Sunday, September 15th at 7:30 p.m. on UNE’s Biddeford Campus, in the Alfond Health & Science Building, Room 205.
UNE Professor Ali Abdullatif Ahmida, Chair of the Department of Political Science, will moderate the discussion on Monday, Sept. 16th, which will probe:
1. How to interpret the Constitution?
2. How does the movie represent the politics of slavery in the Constitution?
3. What are the movie’s lessons for us in the 21st Century?
A light lunch will be provided.
