Undergraduate Student Financial Services

One of the most important considerations when committing to a college or university is its cost. At UNE, we work with you and your family to help make a UNE education affordable. We provide a number of generous grants and scholarships — money that does not need to be paid back — for the duration of your four-year degree. 98% of our students receive financial assistance of some form, and the average total award package exceeds $26,000. Our tuition is 16% less than the average for private universities in New England.

Forbes 2017 badgeAnother important consideration in choosing an institution of higher education is the return you receive on your investment. At UNE, we believe your degree should be valuable and enduring. In 2016, MONEY magazine named UNE as one of the Best Colleges for Your Money. MONEY determined its rankings by giving equal weight to quality of education (including factors like graduation rates and instructor quality), affordability (by examining student debt and loan default rates), and outcomes (which takes into account graduates’ incomes). Forbes magazine placed UNE in the top 650 American degree-granting institutions that provide the highest investment return — high honors considering there are approximately 4,500 colleges and universities in the nation.

While the national default rate on student loans is 11.3% and the Maine default rate on student loans is 10.4%, the default rate for UNE graduates is considerably less, at just 2.5% — this means that 97% of our graduates responsibly manage their student loan obligations.

UNE has also been included in the 2018 edition of The Princeton Review’s Best 382 Colleges guide. This highly selective list includes only the top 15% of four-year colleges and universities in the U.S. We were selected based on its high-quality academic offerings, optimal locations in Maine and Morocco, competitive cost and size. The Best 382 Colleges guide selects schools on the basis of academic quality, student survey data, and the commitment to providing a balanced representation of colleges by region, size, character and type. More than 136,000 students participated in the surveys, rating schools for the quality of academic offerings and administration, campus life and overall environment.

With a UNE diploma, manageable college expenses, and our commitment to partnering with you and your family, you are well equipped for the transition you will make after college.
