The Emerging Field of Canine Rehabilitation

David Levine, PT '86, PhD, DPT, Diplomate ABPTS, CCRP, Cert. DN will present a lecture from 11-11:50 am on Friday, September 23, 2016 that will provide an overview of the emerging field of canine rehabilitation including comparative anatomy, regulatory issues, selected common conditions, and treatment interventions used. Evidence-based practice will be incorporated as well as the collaborative approach between the veterinary and physical therapy professions. 

Dr. Levine is a Professor and the Walter M. Cline Chair of Excellence in Physical Therapy at the University of Tennessee.  He is an adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine and North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  A 1986 graduate of the University of New England, he also received an MS and PhD from Boston University and the University of Tennessee respectively. Dr. Levine has been working and conducting research in animal physical rehabilitation since 1993 and is co-director of the University of Tennessee certificate program in canine rehabilitation.  He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in veterinary journals and is a co-editor of the books “Canine Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy” and “Essential Facts of Physiotherapy in Dogs and Cats”.
