This event is free and open to the public.

As the inaugural event of the President’s Forum, a new event series promoting open and robust discourse on timely and controversial topics, President James Herbert will introduce the topic, “Making Sense of Jordan Peterson,” an evening of lively debate and discussion featuring UNE Professors Anouar Majid and David Livingstone Smith, moderated by Professor Alex Campbell.

Dr. Peterson is a Canadian psychologist and professor whose recent book, 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos, is a world-wide bestseller. He is also a successful internet sensation, whose YouTube channel and videos have been viewed more than 30 million times. Peterson’s philosophy and views have been read by some as expressions of the alt-right and by others as liberating.

Professors Smith and Majid will discuss and debate the Peterson phenomenon at this event, representing opposing positions on this polarizing figure.
