DMD- ASDA -Learn to Walk Before You Run, How to Avoid Legal Issues in Dentistry
DMD- American Student Dental Association -Learn to Walk Before You Run, How to Avoid Legal Issues in Dentistry. 5:30pm - 7:30pm, Dinner will be served.
With dental students coming out of schools owing $400-500K+ and pressure from DSO’s (corporate dentistry) to produce, students may be tempted to “bite off more than they can chew”. This may result not only in crossing ethical lines, but to do things beyond their skill set resulting in poor patient care and obvious legal concerns. Adverse ramifications may result in complaints to the State Board and lead to investigation with the possible suspension of one’s dental license, in addition to to civil charges resulting in malpractice suits, with potential for
significant financial penalties.

Learning Objective:
Students should be able to conclude that the practice of dentistry is a life long learning process, and the skill set obtained while in dental school is just the beginning of one’s education. Furthermore, to be a competent professional one must always put the patient first, work ethically, and refer to the appropriate specialist should the procedure be beyond one’s educational and clinical skill level for the best treatment outcome and to avoid potential legal consequences.
