ArtCOM 2023

5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Biddeford Campus (Forum 283 A/B)

ArtCOM will exhibit work from our incredible UNE COM Community. This year's ArtCOM theme, "Radical Bodies," celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. MLK recognized the intersectionality of oppression when he declared in his Letter from Birmingham Jail that, "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Like the osteopathic principles, he believed in the “inescapable network of mutuality… Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.”

Violence on black bodies, queer bodies, female bodies, toxic masculinity, and the prevalence of negative body images are endemic within our communities. The dignity to express and experience our bodies across race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and ableness continues to be stripped and threatened.

We hope you will support the creative talents of your peers and colleagues by attending and voting for the piece you feel best reflects this year's theme, "Radical Bodies." Prizes will be awarded and winners will be showcased in Stella Maris for the remainder of the 2022-23 Academic Year:

  • First Prize: $200
  • Second Prize: $100
  • Honorable Mention: $50
  • Best Piece created by a community member 10 and under: $25

The event will be held in the Forum, Room 283 A/B, on Wednesday, February 8th from 5-7PM. Light apps will be provided and beer/wine will be available for purchase.
