We Make Therefore We Are: UNE Gallery Biddeford

5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Biddeford Campus (Ketchum Library UNE Art Gallery Biddeford )

Artist’s Reception for Student Show Pop-Up! Friday, November 21, 2026, 5-7pm
With live music by the UNE African Drumming Ensemble (MUS 150)
Showcasing wide-ranging responses to our rapidly changing world, “We Make Therefore We Are” reveals the complexities of life as a college student in the 21st century. Each student questions the world and their place in it in unique and surprising ways.

This exhibit of art was created by students enrolled in ART 395 Studio Concentration Seminar and includes additional short artist spotlight videos created by students enrolled in CMM 225 taught by Professor Matt Siegel. ART 395 is an in-depth seminar in professional studio practice in the visual arts. Over the course of a semester, students articulate and develop an independent body of work in the medium of their choice. This was accomplished in consultation with the instructor and a mentor in the student’s chosen field of study.

Special thanks to Hilary Irons who was our visiting critic twice during the semester and made time and space in the busy gallery schedule for our students to have this opportunity to exhibit their work. Thank you are to Matt Siegel who hatched the idea for the artist spotlight videos to begin with and thank you to his students of CMM225 for enthusiastically taking on the task and finally thank you to Jonathan DeCoster and the students of MUS 150 for bringing live music to the reception.
